QUESTIONS FOR 1 CORINTHIANS 1:1-9
Instructions: Read the verses and then prayerfully answer the following questions
1. What does Paul’s authority as an apostle tell us about this letter? How should you therefore respond to the truth you learn in it?
2. Read a few lines or paragraphs about the city of Corinth out of an encyclopedia, a study Bible introduction, Bible dictionary or on the web. How does the city of Corinth compare to the cities in the L.A. area? Do you think it would be more or less difficult to live a Christian life at Corinth than in L.A.?
2. How does Paul describe the recipients of this letter? What does it mean to be âsanctifiedâ in verse 2? Is this true of you? What are other ways that Scripture uses this word?
3. What does Paul thank God for? Is this different from the sorts of things you tend to focus on in your thanks to God?
4. What might the âgrace of Godâ and âtestimony concerning Christâ refer to in verses 4 and 6? Can you point to evidence in your own life that these things are true of you?
5. Do the priorities and focus of your life demonstrate that you eagerly await the revelation of Jesus Christ?
6. What encouragement might you draw from Paul’s promise in verse 8?
7. What does âcalled into fellowshipâ with Christ suggest about our relationship with Christ in verse 9?
