Colossians 3:8-11 (NASB)

8 But now you also, put them all aside: anger, wrath, malice, slander, and abusive speech from your mouth. 9 Do not lie to one another, since you laid aside the old self with its evil practices, 10 and have put on the new self who is being renewed to a true knowledge according to the image of the One who created him— 11 a renewal in which there is no distinction between Greek and Jew, circumcised and uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian, slave and freeman, but Christ is all, and in all.

The Big Idea:
God commands Christians to put off both the sinful hatred in our hearts and the harmful speech of our mouths, since we are new creations in Christ.

Outline: 3 aids to help you to get rid of your sins of unrighteous anger and hurtful words.

  1. Realize the direct command of God to be putting off these serious sins (3:8-9a).
  2. Recall the monumental change that happened when you believed in Christ at your salvation (3:9b-11).
  3. Respond by applying these further directives to rid yourself of these sins (Selected Scriptures).
